Doesn't Utility already do this? or am I not understanding somethin :)

With Utility you can do Mid or Side but not to decode them back to Left and Right.

to my awareness decoding is not needed, if you stack M/S as 2 signals in parallel in a group, they sum correctly to the original Stereo. Side is just the phase difference: stereo = M+S and stacking them parallel is the addition/subtraction. If you know your M/S recording, in Ableton you just need to flip the phase switch on the R signal to get the out of phase signal and sum it with a duel mono signal which you get by setting the signal to Left on the original signal. If you know this then you can process anything mid and/or side, even a side signal in or out of phase. Please tell me if there is more to it?
Ok, but for processing you have to use two plugins each for every chain. It is not so convenient.

without testing, i'd say it's just a quality of life plugin. Not necessary if you know how to properly toggle M/S, as width is no longer the same as mid/side and you bare the knowledge of the 6db difference of mid compared to side, which is mentioned in the tutorial but also just a observation, not a fact. please correct us if there is more to this plugin.
